Friday 9/24/54: Majeski, Lemon lead Tribe to 7-3 win in '54 replay game; another "Gray" loss
Hank Majeski, giving Bobby Avila a day off at second base, came up with three hits to lead the Indians to a 7-3 win over the Tigers. Bob Lemon won his 19th for the Indians as he went the distance, allowing only five hits. Two of the Tigers' hits were home runs by Wayne Belardi. The circuit blasts were his fourteenth and fifteenth HRs of the season (He hit 11 in real life in '54). Ted Gray suffered the loss for the Tigers, and will end up with an ignominious 0-10 record in the replay (He was 3-5 in real life). Ted is not the only Gray to go winless in the replay ... Johnny Gray of the Philadelphia A's is 0-14. |
